Encaustic Painting for Beginners with Yahya (Wax Painting Workshop)

Encaustic painting is a bold, ancient technique that uses warm wax + pigment to create glowing layers, texture, and depth. If watercolor feels like a whisper, encaustic is a warm, dramatic “let’s build a surface” kind of art.

No experience needed. You’ll leave with a finished piece the same day.

• A completed encaustic artwork on a rigid panel (typically 8×10 or similar)
• Optional add-ons: extra panels, collage transfers, texture tools

• How encaustic wax works (layering, fusing, and building depth)
• Adding color, texture, and mark-making
• Safe use of heat tools to fuse layers
• Simple techniques you can repeat at home (if you choose)

• Encaustic wax + pigments
• Panels to paint on (at least one)
• All tools + shared heat stations
• Guided instruction + demos + help as you work

Encaustic uses heated wax and heat tools, so we keep it structured and well-ventilated.

• Expect mild warmth/odor from heated wax (ventilation is provided)
• Closed-toe shoes recommended
• This class is best for adults / teens

• You’ll take your artwork home the same day.
• Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little artsy.

Trained as a working artist, Yahya taught graduate-level students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before launching his own art school. Expect a welcoming, structured approach that builds real skills in color, light, and brushwork—whether you come once or turn it into a multi-session series.
