A series of trainings for credible messengers and outreach workers in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs. Trainings are sponsored by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health's Philadelphia CVI Coalition.

Week 1: Sun Jan 11 – Intro to Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice (1–5 PM)
The Introduction to Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice class provides a foundational understanding of how restorative approaches build accountability, repair harm, and strengthen relationships in schools and communities. Participants explore the principles, history, and values of restorative justice, with a focus on shifting from punitive responses to inclusive, relationship-centered solutions. Through discussion and practical examples, learners gain insight into how restorative practices prevent conflict, address harm, and foster safer, more connected environments. This course serves as a gateway for individuals interested in community engagement, education, violence prevention, and systems change.

Week 2: Sat Jan 17 – Community Organizing & Engagement (1–5 PM)
The Community Organizing and Engagement class equips participants with the tools and strategies needed to mobilize residents, build collective power, and drive meaningful change. Participants learn the fundamentals of organizing, including relationship-building, leadership development, and issue identification rooted in community voice. The course emphasizes inclusive engagement, collaboration, and effective communication to strengthen trust and participation. Through real-world examples, learners gain practical skills to engage stakeholders and create sustainable, community-led solutions.

Week 3: Sun Jan 25 – Restorative Circles & CBT (1–5 PM)
The Restorative Circles/Conferencing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) class explores the powerful integration of restorative dialogue and evidence-based cognitive behavioral techniques. Participants learn how restorative circles and conferencing create safe spaces for accountability, healing, and relationship repair, while CBT tools help individuals understand and change harmful thought and behavior patterns. The course emphasizes practical strategies for facilitating meaningful conversations, becoming a circle-holder, managing conflict, and supporting emotional regulation. Learners leave with skills that promote personal growth, collective responsibility, and healthier outcomes for individuals and communities.

Week 4: Wed Jan 28 – Conflict Prevention, De-Escalation, Mediation & Resolution (5–9 PM)
The Conflict Prevention, De-Escalation, Mediation & Resolution class provides participants with practical skills to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict in a constructive and non-violent manner. Learners explore the root causes of conflict, early warning signs, and effective de-escalation techniques that promote safety and calm. The course introduces mediation frameworks that emphasize active listening, neutrality, and collaborative problem-solving. Through real-world scenarios, participants build confidence in resolving disputes while preserving dignity, relationships, and community trust.

Week 5: Thu Feb 5 – Family/Group Decision Making (9 AM–1 PM) - Optional for Credible Messengers
The Family Group Decision Making class introduces a collaborative, strengths-based approach that centers families as key decision-makers in addressing challenges and planning for the future. Participants learn how to facilitate inclusive family meetings that elevate voice, promote shared responsibility, and build consensus around safety and well-being. The course emphasizes cultural humility, respect, and partnership between families, service providers, and community supports. Learners gain practical tools to support sustainable, family-driven solutions that strengthen relationships and long-term outcomes.
