It's back! The Atlanta Film Society and Kodak are in partnership to present the 100 Feet of Film Project. This project provides a team of filmmakers with the opportunity to maximize their creativity while minimizing the ability to reshoot. Through this project, filmmakers will learn to effectively and efficiently shoot on a limited reel of film stock, and in the process, must focus on the fundamentals of filmmaking. Join us for a discussion with Camilo Diaz, Crystal Jin Kim, Brian Lonano, and Angelica Perez-Castro as they talk about their individual experiences participating in the program and shooting on film.
ABOUT THE PANELISTS:
Camilo Diaz is a Colombian director, writer, and producer based in Atlanta, Georgia. He has crafted award-winning short films featured at festivals like the Atlanta Film Festival and Sidewalk Film Festival. In 2019, Camilo became a Sundance Institute Alumnus when his script, "Violent Winds”, was selected for the Screenwriters Intensive. He has produced feature films such as Popular Theory and The Throwback, and has collaborated with organizations like the Georgia Film Academy, ARRI Rental, and Kodak. As Camilo prepares to direct his first feature film, Crusheta, in December 2024, he continues to pursue his passion for creating films that break conventions and engage audiences as the co-founder of CineAstra.
Crystal Jin Kim is an artist and award-winning independent filmmaker from Atlanta, Georgia. She is a 2023-2025 Filmmaker-in-Residence with the Atlanta Film Society and a 2020-2022 alumnus of The Creatives Project’s Artist-in-Studio residency program. Crystal received the Asian Cultural Empowerment's inaugural Grant Award in 2021, is a 2023 Hambidge Center Fellow, and was nominated for the 2023 United States Artists Fellowship award in filmmaking. She graduated from Northwestern University in 2014 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Radio/Television/Film and the other in Art Theory and Practice. Crystal’s short films have screened at numerous film festivals in the U.S. and abroad, including the Atlanta Film Festival, Seoul International Youth Film Festival, and CAAMFest. Her films often feature characters who struggle to love the people they love most. Crystal's arts practice also includes cut mother-of-pearl, photography, drawing, and painting.
Brian Lonano is the director of the infamous short film, Gwilliam. He’s made several shorts, music videos, and commissioned works that embrace a trashy outsider sentiment and utilize DIY practical and visual effects. Brian's been very fortunate to have his work screen at film festivals like SXSW, Fantastic Fest, Fantasia and Slamdance, where he was awarded a Special Jury Mention for Gwilliam. In 2023, his newest short CONTENT: The Lo-Fi Man screened at over 30 film festivals and won the Audience Award for Best Midnight Short at the Florida Film Festival as well as a Special Jury Mention from the Atlanta Film Festival.
Angélica Pérez-Castro is a Puerto Rican cinematographer and steadicam operator based in Atlanta. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design and a Master’s in Film and Television. An active IATSE Local 600 camera operator, Angélica was selected for the ASC Vision Mentorship program in 2021 and the AFI cinematography intensive in 2022. Her work spans Netflix, Fox, HBO, Hulu, and independent films. A semi-finalist at the Altitude Awards during Cinegear LA 2024, Angélica is part of Women In Media and an associate member of the SOC. Currently, she has two indie feature films in the festival circuit: Love & Taxes and Greek Mothers Never Die.
