Drag and Harpsichords
Jerimiah Otto, double manual flemish harpsichord (after Couchet) by Jencks/KeithHill
Jerimiah Otto is both an early music expert and a talented drag artist, however, this will be the first event combining these two disparate creative expressions. In its heyday, music for the harpsichord was written in a very restrained and codified style. This standard created constant desire on the part of great composers to encode subversive gestures into the otherwise very square and normative style of baroque music. The Drag performance alongside the harpsichord performance enters into a vibrating dialogue between the traditional expectations of courtly aristocratic behaviors and subversive counter-cultural expressions.
For our first season we’re thrilled to offer our pay-as-you-wish model for all concerts and subscriptions, making exceptional music accessible to everyone. As a donor-driven organization, your support is vital. RSVP here at the link.
