Douglass Juneteenth Celebration

The event will host a number of vendors and partner organizations at tables such as The Lupus Society of Illinois, The Cancer Society, Lawndale Christian Health Center, and many more! We’ll also have speakers, including Commissioner Michael Scott, President Periwinkle, and Blanche Killingsworth from the North Lawndale Historical and Cultural Society, to discuss the significance of Route 66 and Juneteenth as well as a DJ, Senior Line Dancers, youth performers, a mural depicting Route 66's history, a mini-golf-course, and an art-making station. Food will be served first come first served starting at 1:00 p.m. Guided trolley tours will also run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to teach youth and families about the signifance of Route 66 while driving on the historic Route 66 in North Lawndale. This event is sponsored by the North Lawndale Historical and Cultural Society, Douglass Park District, Juneteenth Renaissance Institute, Lawndale Pop-Up Spot, One Lawndale Arts & Activism Incubator, The Heart of ABQ 6.6k, The Lupus Society of Illinois, and Sinai Chicago.
