About this Event
Join us for an evening with multidisciplinary artist LAURÉAT NKINZO, whose work explores community, cultural memory, and the imaginative possibilities created through composition, materiality, and form.
Beginning in photography, NKINZO developed an intuitive understanding of shape, light, balance, and spatial composition through the lens of the camera. This foundation evolved into a collage practice, where fragments from disparate contexts are gathered and transformed into cohesive visual narratives. Over time, this process expanded into painting and sculpture, driven by an ongoing exploration of how creating original forms and materials can deepen the meaning and emotional resonance of a composition.
At the heart of NKINZO’s practice is an interest in how diverse elements can coexist in harmony—forming vibrant ensembles that reflect ideas of community, imagination, and interconnectedness. Drawing inspiration from personal and cultural history, the work incorporates influences from classic animation alongside African craft traditions, architecture, and furniture design.
Through these layered material explorations, NKINZO creates scenes that map the “unspoken geography” of internal life—spaces where memory, identity, and visual storytelling converge.
Guests will have the opportunity to experience the work firsthand, hear directly from the artist about their creative process and influences, and engage in conversation around contemporary art, culture, and community.
