Location: 'Budapest', Pesthuislaan, Amsterdam Oud West.
Canadian composer and multi-instrumentalist Marielle Groven performs on violin, piano and pipe organ and composes for various ensembles. Her composed music foregrounds the beauty and complexity of raw sound roughly hewn using basic compositional methods. Her solo improvised violin project is inspired by Amsterdam’s international free improvised music scene and develops a personal approach embracing her musical roots in Atlantic Canada and background in experimental music.
Seamus Cater is an English songwriter, musician and composer, combining these threads, or branches, in different combinations or collaborations. The songs he chooses for this solo project are a lived tradition which takes ballads of the British Isles and gives them another voice. Maintaining the songs in a solo repertoire is another kind of tradition and work, occasionally repeating, whilst the songs slowly grow their own new threads or branches.
Donation concert.
