About this Event
Tired of the apps? Friends tired of your venting? Come turn that energy into art.
Join us for a night of storytelling, collaging, and creating our very own zines at Society Clubhouse. Whether you’re an artist or haven’t touched a glue stick since third grade, this is for you.
What is a Zine?
We’ll start with a (very) brief dive into the "what and why" of zine culture; from its DIY punk roots to its role as the ultimate democratic medium for self-expression. Then, we get straight into the creation.
The Theme: "Dating in Toronto"
To avoid the dreaded "blank page-itis," this workshop’s theme is dedicated to the 416 dating scene. It can be anything from:
- The Horror Story: A cut-and-paste recap of that one date at Trinity Bellwoods.
- The "Analog" Profile: A zine version of your dating profile to hand out to cute strangers in the wild for this summer's festivals (hello, Do West Fest?).
- The TTC Rant: How the Eglinton LRT is ruining your love life.
- The Manifesto: A list of your absolute, non-negotiable red flags.
Whatever is on your mind; if you can vent about it, you can zine about it.
What’s Included:
- All Supplies Provided: Paper, markers, stamps, scissors, glue, washi tape, and a collection of vintage magazines and prompts.
- Expert Guidance: We'll show you how to fold, cut, and assemble your master copy.
- The Publishing House: We’ve got the photocopying covered! You'll be able to reproduce your zine on the spot so you can swap and share with others before the night is over.
The Vibe:
Low-fi, low-pressure, and high-connection. We’ll be chatting and sipping drinks while we craft. Society Clubhouse has a full bar with craft beers, wine, and non-alcoholic options available for purchase.
