A talk and practical demonstration on decorative techniques used in Lissan's historic interiors
About this Event

Join us for a talk on the decorative finishes found within Lissan House; and discover more about the techniques which can be used to research, conserve and restore them, including a practical demonstration. Lissan’s historic interiors range from its principal “good” rooms, designed to entertain visitors, to more practical back of house spaces, and also include a unique mural by former resident and artist Sir Robert Ponsonby Staples.

This workshop will be led by renowned interiors specialist, Ruth Bothwell, Managing Director and Principal Conservator at Decowell Restoration and Decoration. Ruth’s specialist areas are in the conservation of decorative surfaces, historic interiors, easel and wall paintings, objects, gilding and frames; and has been involved in many high-profile projects. These include the restoration of the Grand Opera House, Belfast, and gilding within Hillsborough Castle.

Places are limited to 16 attendees per session. If you are no longer able to attend, please notify the organiser as soon as possible to allow your place to be released.

Please be aware that this workshop is taking place in a historic building, which is over multiple levels. Unfortunately, access to upper floors is by stair only.

Getting here:

There is on-site parking at Lissan House, however places may be limited. Therefore, a regular shuttle bus will also be running from the nearby Lissan Parish Church, Churchtown. Please allow time for parking and getting to the house, as workshops will begin on time. If parking at Lissan House, enter by Drumgrass Road (where it meets Lissan Road/ Lough Fea Road) as a one-way system will be in place.

Please note, Lissan House does not have on site catering, and it is in a remote setting. If you would like to spend the day exploring the estate, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch which can be enjoyed outside, or you can also use the ballroom between 1pm and 2pm; where tea and coffee will be available. There are also a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants serving food in and around Cookstown.
