About this Event
In this workshop, participants will paint, draw, scratch, and etch directly onto 16mm film. Using both archival footage and blank film stock, we will transform existing material and create new, dynamic works.
This hands on approach to filmmaking, known as direct animation or cameraless cinema, involves manipulating the filmstrip itself rather than using a camera. Through techniques such as painting, scratching, and puncturing, we will produce abstract and experimental imagery. The session will begin with a short introduction to the history of this practice and its contemporary applications.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created a short experimental film, which will later be digitized.
All materials are provided, along with coffee and tea.
