OVERALL AIM:

The overall aim of the summit is to drive meaningful change and promote inclusivity by exploring strategies to ensure the active participation of African, Caribbean and minoritised women in Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), with a focus on cultural sensitivity, effective responses to domestic violence, and fair criminal justice.

This Summit is not just a forum for discussion, but a call to action for all participants to join hands in challenging cultures and practices that perpetuate gender inequalities and abuse against women and children. It aligns seamlessly with the '16 Days of Activism' Theme for 2024, encouraging us to confront norms and create spaces where crucial conversations can lead to meaningful change for victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse.

FOUR PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

(1) To raise awareness regarding the underrepresentation and lack of involvement of African, Caribbean and minoritised women in Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs) and its impact on addressing domestic abuse and violence.

(2) To advocate for fair criminal justice by addressing and reducing the disproportionate overrepresentation of Black, Asian and minoritised young people in the Pr*son system, fostering equity and justice for all.

(3) To Identify barriers preventing the participation of African, Caribbean and minoritised communities in policy development, and devise strategies to overcome them.

(4) To foster collaboration amongst stakeholders to promote and enhance the inclusion and empowerment of African, Caribbean and minoritised women in DHR processes.

OUTCOMES FOR ATTENDEES:

  • Increased Awareness:

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the underrepresentation and lack of involvement of African, Caribbean and minoritised women in DHRs, recognising its significant impact on addressing domestic abuse and violence.

  • Advocacy for Fair Criminal Justice:

Attendees will advocate for fair criminal justice by addressing and reducing the disproportionate overrepresentation of Black, Asian and minoritised young people in the Pr*son system, fostering equity and justice for all.

  • Identification of Barriers:

Individuals will identify barriers hindering the participation of African, Caribbean and minoritised communities in policy development, enabling the development of strategies to overcome these obstacles.

  • Collaboration and Empowerment:

Stakeholders will foster collaboration to promote and enhance the inclusion and empowerment of African, Caribbean and minoritised women in DHR processes, creating a supportive network for driving change and advocating for justice.
