The Deering Estate announces the exhibition Deering Contemporary 2026: Here We Gather…All We Need, We Already Have, curated by Dainy Tapia.
Here We Gather…All We Need, We Already Have invites artists to create works using materials, both physical and intangible, found and gathered at the Deering Estate. The exhibition explores resourcefulness, preservation, and ecological mindfulness, encouraging creative use of what the site already provides.
Artists may incorporate in their work natural and found elements such as leaves, branches, and other materials from the landscape, as well as stories, archives, sounds, and memories rooted in the place. Acknowledging the impermanence of natural materials, the exhibition welcomes ephemerality, allowing works to shift, fade, or weather naturally over time.
“Gathering” here means both collecting and coming together: artists, visitors, and the environment in shared reflection. The exhibition becomes a gesture of gratitude and conservation, revealing the abundance already present within the landscape and within ourselves.
Participating artists include Maria Theresa Barbist, Jessica (Yessica) Gispert, Mark Herrera, Karla Kantorovich, Yusimy Lara, Evelyn Politzer, David Valiente, and Rebecca White.
The exhibit will be on display daily from January 25 to March 22, 2026 and is included with general admission. The opening reception will be on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 12 - 5 p.m. The opening reception is free with RSVP online.
Cultural Arts Programming at the Deering Estate is made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, and The Deering Estate Foundation, Inc.
