About this Event

The MDMC is pleased to invite you to attend our in-person workshop on medical device decontamination, taking place on Wednesday 6th May 2026 at Heriot-Watt University.

This one-day event will bring together researchers , clinicians, and industry partners to explore the latest challenges, innovations, and best practices in medical device decontamination. The programme has been developed to support MedTech companies in understanding how decontamination considerations impact device design, manufacturing, and regulatory approval.

Some of the speakers will include: Dr Gerard Colleran and Olegs Tucs from Technical University Dublin; Pawel de Sternberg Stojalowski, Managing Director & Founder at Aseptium; Prof. Elaine Gemmell, Head of Regulatory Affairs at InnoScot Health;Prof. Andrew Smith, Professor of Clinical Bacteriology at University of Glasgow; Michelle Black, Area Manager at Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU) at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE); Lynsay Gracie, Head of Decontamination at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde; Jonathan Lintott, Managing Director of Andersen Caledonia.

Aimed primarily at companies involved in medical device development, this workshop is designed for industry participants. A limited number of places are also available for academics and researchers with an interest in the topic.

When registering, please ensure you select the correct ticket type based on your background (industry or academic). If your category is sold out at the time of booking, please contact us at [email protected].

Places are limited to ensure meaningful discussion and interaction, so early registration is encouraged. The workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of decontamination methods, regulatory requirements, and real-world case studies. Interactive sessions will give participants the opportunity to engage with experts, explore design considerations, and gain practical insights into sterilisation, packaging, and sterility assurance.

The event will run from 9:00am to 4:30pm and will be held in person at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh EH14 4AS (in room EMG83 of Earl Mountbatten building). Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

MDMC lab tours will also be provided before and after the event. If interested, please add the free ticket, selecting the one with your preferred time slot.

We look forward to welcoming you.
