About this Event
Decluttering the Media Mess
The aim of the workshop is to help us sort through today's overwhelming media load to find what truly matters to us. It is for anyone seeking more clarity on how to interpret all that is printed and posted about culture, society and politics. With the volume and accessibility of Ai generated content on almost every search browser, the ease of posting unverified videos and reels that can reach millions, and the vast privatization and censorship of mainstream media and leading voices, it is necessary that we sharpen our eyes and ears.
This workshop involves collaborative exercises that intend to illustrate how news reporting does more than simply present information. We will learn how to ask useful questions, see through biases as well as practice discernment regarding noise, recognizing what information is worth investigating and what we can ignore.
We will discuss the various media that informs us from journalism, to social apps, to music and oral telling. We will be closely considering language, and how messages can change unintentionally and on purpose as communication travels from source to audience.
Space is limited to the first 20 RSVPs.
Workshop facilitated by Stephanie Ramlogan
