Do you want to feel confident in supporting children with a hearing loss in your early years setting?
Deaf children can do anything other children can do, given the right support from the start. Effective language and communication skills lie at the heart of their social, emotional and intellectual development.
Training overview
This CPD accredited training has been designed to help you feel confident in supporting children with hearing loss, in your setting.
During this online training you will learn what deafness is and some of its causes. You will also be able to describe best practices when communicating with children with a hearing loss.
You’ll leave able to use some basic signs and describe ways to use books and rhymes to support children with a hearing loss.
This training covers:
- What is deafness?
- What causes childhood deafness?
- Technology
- Using gestures and iconic signs
- Using books with deaf children
How the training is structured?
The training programme is made up of 2 modules:
- 1x e-learning module
- 1x live workshop
The live workshop will run from 6 to 7pm with an optional 30 minutes for Q&A on Wednesday, 19 Februrary 2025.

How to join?
This will be a Zoom session. When you first join, you may be prompted to download Zoom which only takes a few seconds to do with a normal broadband connection. Full joining instructions will be sent to you prior to the event.

Who is this training for?
This training is suitable for all early years professionals (childminders, nursery staff, creche workers etc) who have little to no experience of deafness.
Is this training CPD accredited?
Yes, this online training is CPD accredited and will equate to 2 CPD hours / points, certified by CPD UK. Delegates who complete this training will receive a certificate of attendance.
Can I join using any device?
You can access this workshop on any compatible device. We would recommend you join via your computer or laptop to fully contribute throughout the day. You can join using a phone or tablet if necessary, however, we cannot guarantee that all of the functions will work on these devices.
Do I need to do any prep before attending the live workshop?
Yes, you will need to complete the following two tasks prior to the live workshop:
- pre-event survey: a mandatory survey to gauge current confidence levels
- e-learning module: a mandatory e-learning module that will take roughly 1 hour to complete.
Both of these will be available for completion on our training hub, prior to the live workshop. We will provide you with login details closer to the event date if you do not already have an account
Do I need to book my own communication support?
No, we will book this for you. All communication support requirements including captions and BSL interpreting are available by request only. Please indicate your preference on the booking form.
What if I need to cancel?
If you are unable to attend and need to cancel your place, please contact us at [email protected]. Refunds will be available as below.
If you cancel:
- 7 working days or less before the planned date, you will be charged 100% of the total cost
- 8-14 working days before the planned date, you will be charged 50% of the total cost
- 15 working days before the planned date, you will not be charged.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes, we do. For Professional Members we offer 5% discount. For Educational Members we offer 10% discount per delegate.

Do I need to be a member?
No, however, if you'd like to become a Professional Member you can join for free. If you work in education and would like organisational membership for your early years, school or further education setting, join our new Educational Member (fees apply: £30-60 per academic year).

Can I give my place to a friend or colleague if I can't come?
Yes, however, you must notify us in advance, at least 3 days before the workshop takes place via [email protected]
Can I share my login details with a friend or colleague to join?
No. The login details are for 1 person only.
There will be a registration period prior to the start of the event where we will be checking the name of those entering against the delegate list (names of those registered to the purchased tickets).
If your name does not feature on the list, you will not be allowed entry to the workshop.
