From Hollywood heroes to social media influencers, our culture today is full of mixed messages about what it means to “be a man.” These myths of toughness, dominance, and emotional silence have shaped generations and left many men disconnected from themselves and others.In this thought-provoking Sunday Assembly talk, we’ll explore how unpicking these stories can help us live with more wonder, build more authentic community and support each other to live better - values at the heart of Sunday Assembly.
Today's speaker, Kris Genijn, is a facilitator and creative explorer of modern masculinity. Drawing on his background in men’s work and embodiment practice, he blends humour, vulnerability and cultural critique to ask: what have we lost in trying to “man up”?
Kris leads De-masking Masculinity workshops at transformational festivals like Medicine, Nowhere, and Burning Nest. In this talk, he’ll invite us to consider how tenderness, play, and presence can be reclaimed as strengths, helping us move beyond stereotypes into a more human, connected way of living.
We will also have some spoken word from half-Iranian queer footballer and coach, mental health advocate, and stand-up poet, Leilah King.
