Daria’s profile
Daria Golovchenko was born and raised in Kherson, Ukraine, where she started playing the piano at the age of five. She later joined the Kharkiv National Conservatory and played in the orchestra of the Kharkiv Theater of Musical Comedy. Daria has played across the Ukraine and beyond.
When the war reached her home town of Kherson, Daria fled to safety with her baby, and she is now resident in the UK with her young daughter.
How the funds will be used
Sunflower Scotland has visited the Kherson area many times. Villages are half-abandoned, with many homes destroyed and standing like ghosts with dark empty windows.
But some residents carry on living no matter what. They look after their gardens, they grow vegetables and raise chickens. But villages closer to the Dnipro river are bombarded almost daily by artillery and drones.
In this area, life is a desperate quest for survival. It is not a figure of speech. We have been in the Kherson villages a number of times delivering aid, and have first-hand experience.
All the money raised from the concert will be used to fund a new mission, and deliver food aid to the Kherson region.
Daria is not only an amazing pianist, but her story is also very moving and can be seen here on a clip from The Piano, which was broadcast from Waverley station in Edinburgh:
