The Dante Alighieri Society of Toronto, in collaboration with Associazione Amarcord Emilianoromagnoli dell’Ontario and Librissimi Toronto Italian Book Festival, is proud to present "In the Weaving of the Divine Comedy: Luminous Lyrical Threads,”, a conversation with author and poet Anna Maria Farabbi. on May 4, 2026, at 6:00 pm in the picturesque setting of the Dante Garden at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto.

In an era of rapid linguistic evolution, the connection between the roots of Italian literature and today’s lyrical production remains a fascinating field of inquiry. Anna Maria Farabbi will lead the audience through the invisible yet resilient threads that link Dante Alighieri’s apocalyptic vision to the sensitivity of contemporary poets.
The discussion will delve into the historical dichotomy of Italian poetry, which has long been divided between the formal elegance of Petrarchism and the visionary, experimental power of Dantism.
Drawing on her profound experience as a translator and scholar, Farabbi will analyze how the incandescent resonances of Dante’s thought continue to manifest within the "body" of modern poetry, proving that the eight centuries separating us from the Great Poet have not dimmed his vibrant influence.

The Speaker: Anna Maria Farabbi
A poet, narrator, essayist, and translator of high acclaim, Anna Maria Farabbi is one of the most original voices in the contemporary Italian literary scene. Her work is characterized by intense linguistic research ranging from dialect to refined literary language, with a constant focus on the ethical and social dimension of the word.
Her extensive bibliography includes acclaimed poetry collections such as Adlujè (2003), Abse (2013), and La casa degli scemi (2017). She is also a prolific author of fiction and children’s literature, with works like Caro diario azzurro and La notte fosforescente. Farabbi currently directs several editorial series for prestigious independent publishers (Kaba, Piedimosca, and Al3vie), including the Arca series, which recently published her work La via del poco (2022).
