Dissecting Dracula: A Hands-On Literary WorkshopJoin Dacre Stoker, international best-selling author and great-grandnephew of Dracula author Bram Stoker, for a fascinating investigative workshop exploring the creation of one of the most famous novels in literary history. Using copies of rare papers borrowed from libraries and archives around the world, Dacre guides participants through an interactive literary “treasure hunt.”
Together, the group examines more than 40 historical documents connected to Bram Stoker’s research and writing of Dracula. Participants will search for clues that reveal the mystery of 101 missing manuscript pages, believed to contain the first three chapters removed from the original Dracula typescript before publication in 1897. Working collaboratively, attendees analyze reproductions of Bram Stoker’s notes, letters, research materials, and early manuscript fragments. Through discussion and guided interpretation, Dacre helps participants piece together how these documents fit together like a puzzle to illuminate the creative process behind the making of Dracula.
This engaging workshop invites audiences to step into the role of literary detectives and experience first hand the research and discoveries that continue to shape our understanding of Bram Stoker’s masterpiece.
