Vocalist from New Orleans sings songs from her surprisingly danceable album À Fleur de Peau.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time Cyrille Aimée was twenty, she had already lived on four different continents. This resonates on her new album À Fleur de Peau. Here she embraces the directness and simplicity of contemporary pop forms while drawing on her Dominican heritage, with its cargo of African dance rhythms and Spanish folksongs. She sings in English, Spanish and French, her first language, alongside her captivating vocal improvisations.
Singer Cyrille Aimée grew up in Samois-sur-Seine, where the legendary Django Reinhardt lived, a place of pilgrimage for fans of gypsy jazz. She ventured from singing on street corners to dazzling audiences at European festivals. She celebrated success in New York and currently lives in New Orleans. The songs on the new album originated in the forests of Costa Rica, where she experienced a creative rebirth.
‘Her voice is a marvel: saucy, swinging and utterly charming. But don’t let that girlish voice fool you; it’s powered by a sleek, powerful jazz engine with razor-sharp intonation, and her scatting shows a deep strain of Ella Fitzgerald’ (Downbeat).
