Cut Copy, the GRAMMY®-nominated, ARIA Award-winning pioneers of Australian Electronic Music, return in 2025 with their first new single in five years: “Solid.” Produced by Dan Whitford and mixed by Christoffer Berg (The Knife, Fever Ray), the track was mixed at the legendary Svenska Grammofon Studion in Gothenburg, Sweden, on a Neve Electronics console once used by Brian Eno, David Bowie, Queen, and The Rolling Stones. An anthem of resilience and determination, “Solid” was born from both personal and universal experiences of overcoming adversity. The message is clear: keep going, chase your dreams, and trust — we’ll be solid.
Formed in Melbourne in 2001 as the solo project of frontman Dan Whitford, Cut Copy evolved into a full band with Tim Hoey (guitar), Mitchell Scott (drums), and Ben Browning (bass). Their debut album, Bright Like Neon Love (2004), earned critical praise, with NME calling it “Technique-era New Order fed through My Bloody Valentine’s distortion pedals” and “the album Daft Punk should have made.”
Breakthrough came with In Ghost Colours (2008), which debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart and cracked the U.S. Billboard 200. Zonoscope (2011) followed, peaking at #3 in Australia and #46 in the U.S., winning two ARIA Awards and earning a GRAMMY® nomination. The band continued their streak with Free Your Mind (2013) — whose video featured band friend Alexander Skarsgård, Haiku From Zero (2017), a vivid concept album exploring digital overload, and 2020’s Freeze, Melt, a meditative and ambient shift in tone that Pitchfork described as “a nice warm bath” of introspection.
Cut Copy’s influence transcends albums. Their music has soundtracked major campaigns and pop culture moments, including FIFA 18, Dolby, Netflix, Amazon, Chevrolet, and the global Levi’s® #LiveinLevis campaign.
They’ve brought their exhilarating live energy to over 1,000 sold-out headline shows and iconic festival stages including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra, Primavera, Pitchfork Paris, Summer Sonic, and Big Day Out.
Whether crafting immersive DJ mixes (Fabriclive.29, Oceans Apart) or releasing ambient deep-dives like their limited-edition cassette January Tape, Cut Copy has consistently redefined what electronic music can be.
With Solid, Cut Copy steps boldly into a new chapter—still chasing the horizon, still reimagining the emotional possibilities of synth-pop. From bedroom beginnings to shaping the sound of a generation, they remain one of the most influential and visionary acts to emerge from Australia’s indie scene. Still evolving. Still essential. Still solid.
