About this Event
Join us on Saturday, August 31 at 10AM (HST) as we explore the fun yet meditative qualities of doodling!
This free, online workshop will encourage participants to let go of perfectionism and hone in on the fun of the process. Intuitive line art, or mindful doodling, offers a way to express yourself and reflect on life when you don't have the words.
We ask that attendees have the following materials ready for the workshop:
- Five sheets of blank paper
- A set of colored markers
At the end of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to submit a picture of your work to our "Creative Coping" booklet.
Learn more about our host, Jayna Wong:
Jayna was born and raised in Koʻolaupoko on Oʻahu, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Hawaiʻi. What surprises most people though, is that outside of the laboratory she can be found painting, knitting, and drawing. A lifelong artist, Jayna's art reflects on her upbringing and life in Hawaiʻi, and mainly consists of realism painting. However, the unique stresses of graduate school have necessitated that Jayna think of new ways to "stay sane"- intuitive, confidence-building methods of self-care and meditation through drawing, or "doodling".
"Creative Coping" is a series of free workshops that explore how creativity can strengthen mental health and wellness, sponsored by Samaritan Counseling Center Hawai'i and NAMI Hawai‘i.
NAMI Hawaii is committed to offering community-focused education, advocacy, and support programs for family caregivers and individuals living in recovery.
Samaritan Counseling Center Hawai'i is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide professional and accessible mental health counseling sensitive to the spiritual traditions of individuals, families, and communities in Hawai'i, regardless of their ability to pay.
