Creation as Sustenance & Resistance: An Immersive Collaborative Workshop

Collective joy is an act of resistance. Share food, art & music with community — and leave grounded, hopeful & ready to catalyze change.
About this Event

The current political moment has many of us feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and angry — and that's understandable. But in difficult times, grounding ourselves and actively cultivating joy isn't a luxury; it's a necessity. Our imagination is one of the most powerful tools we have.

When we create together, something opens up. We get to share our experiences, struggles, and hopes in ways that everyday life rarely allows — and in doing so, we get to truly know and be known by one another.

This gathering is an invitation to explore three practices that have always been at the heart of liberation movements: art, music, and hospitality. We'll examine the role of artists and creatives in the struggle for social justice and human rights — drawing on the legacies of Black, Indigenous, and other artists of color and LGBTQIA+ creatives whose work has fueled movements for racial equity, civil rights, and human liberation. We'll explore how music chronicles our stories, builds solidarity, and gives us the energy to keep going. And we'll gather around the subversive table — cooking, baking, and feeding one another as acts of care, presence, and resistance.

Each of these practices engages the whole person. Each one asks for our full presence. And each one has something to teach us about what it means to keep showing up for the world.

We believe time spent together like this is both sustenance and resistance. Come spend the day:

  • Making simple, meaningful art as an act of resistance
  • Building soundtracks for a tiny revolution
  • Gathering around good food at the subversive table

Before You Arrive
  • Review the policies – Please take a moment to read the full workshop and cancellation policies, found at the bottom of the registration form and in your confirmation email.
  • Add it to your calendar – Go ahead and mark the date and time now so the day is protected!

On the Day of Your Workshop
  • Please arrive no later than 10 minutes before the workshop begins. We'll spend the first 45 minutes establishing Community Agreements as a group — after which we won't be able to admit late arrivals, in order to protect everyone's confidentiality.
  • Stay for the full day – This workshop is designed as a complete experience, so we ask that you remain from beginning to end. Stepping in and out disrupts the flow for everyone.
  • Taking Care of Yourself - We want you to feel supported throughout the day. All workshops include regular stretch and self-care breaks. For workshops 6 hours or longer, we also build in a 60-minute lunch break so you can rest and recharge.
  • Life happens—just let us know – We ask that you communicate with us if something comes up that might prevent or limit your participation. Whether it's a personal moment, an unexpected need to step out, or something else arising during the day, a quiet word with your facilitator is all it takes. We'd rather work with you than have to make a difficult call about your continued participation. You don't need to share details—just let us know what you need.
  • Need Support? - Have questions about participating or need accommodations? We'd love to hear from you—reach out at [email protected], and we'll do our best to help.
