About this Event
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the textures, forms, colours, and creativity behind artist Shasta McCoy’s work while making your own felted critter. You’ll learn how wool can be shaped, layered, and transformed into a charming animal or plant companion, all while engaging with themes of nature, connection, and storytelling that are central to Shasta’s current exhibit at the Canmore Museum, Prey to Gather. Whether you’re curious about needle felting for the first time or want to refine your skills, this workshop provides a relaxed, inspiring environment to create, experiment, and bring a little critter of your own to life.
This event is beginner-friendly and all materials will be provided. Participants will learn basic needle felting techniques and create a unique felted critter to take home. Shasta will provide step-by-step guidance, support your own creative ideas, and ensure that everyone leaves with a finished creation.
Light refreshments will be provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.
Spaces are limited, so early registration is recommended to secure your spot.
About the facilitator
Shasta McCoy is a fiber artist who engages wool as a textile and sculptural medium along with wood, stone, metal, found objects and other fibers. Shasta’s relationship with fiber wool extends back to her childhood in east Tennessee on a small farm with sheep where she was active in 4-H and will forever be the 1994 Tennessee Sheep and Wool Queen. Shasta lives in Golden, the traditional territory of the Secwépemc and Ktunaxa Nations, where her art practice intertwines mythos and witchcraft. Her work explores archetypes of the divine feminine/masculine, cyclical rhythms, healing, and connection to land and water.
