About this Event

On the surface, Her (director Spike Johnze) presents a near-future world where technology is seamlessly integrated into daily life and our protagonist (played by Joaquin Phoenix) falls in love with Samantha, an advanced computer operating system. Some may see the film as prophetic, particularly in 2026 with the rise of AI companions. Yet the film explores much deeper themes, including our primal need for human connection and understanding. Join us for this thought-provoking screening, which complements our February event on Lars and the Real Girl.

We look forward to welcoming you in Newnham College.
