Clinical Counselor Supervision
25-hour workshop to qualify for
the Louisiana LPC-S credential

in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025
To be approved by the LPC board as an LPC-S, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Louisiana must have been practicing counseling a minimum of 3 years after licensure and must have completed supervision training within 5 years of application for board-approved supervision. This training program was designed to meet the requirements for supervision training. Any LPC, PLPC, graduate of a counseling graduate program, or counseling graduate student who plans to apply for the LPC-S designation in the next 5 years is eligible to complete this training.
All sessions for the 25-hour supervision training will be taught by counselors who hold the LPC-S designation in Louisiana. After an initial one-hour orientation on a Thursday from 5:30-6:30 pm, each training session will be held by Zoom on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm (Central Time Zone). Participants will receive 25 continuing education hours that have been approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). The cost for the 25-hour workshop series is $375.
Topics for the training sessions and instructors include the following:
• First Thursday afternoon, 5:30-6:30 pm, Orientation to the 8 workshop series, Dr. Dottie Martin.
• First Friday morning, 8:30 am – noon, Louisiana LPC Board statutes, rules, and regulations, Dr. Roy Salgado.
• First Friday afternoon, 1:00-4:30 pm, 1:00-4:30 pm, Role of clinical supervisor different from role of administrative supervisor including roles and functions of clinical supervisors and evaluation of supervisee competence and the supervision process, Dr. Tommy Fonseca.
• First Saturday morning, 8:30 am – noon, Clinical supervision case studies and revisit of Louisiana licensure board rules and forms, Dr. Tommy Fonseca.
• First Saturday afternoon, 1:00-4:30 pm, Clinical supervision models overview, Dr. Dottie Martin.
• Second Friday morning, 8:30 am – noon, Techniques of clinical supervision including methods and techniques in clinical supervision and group supervision, Dr. Dottie Martin.
• Second Friday afternoon, 1:00-4:30 pm, Best practices in supervision including mental health related professional development and cultural issues in clinical supervision, Dr. Roy Salgado.
• Second Saturday morning, 8:30 am – noon, Ethical and legal issues in supervision, Dr. Mary Hermann.
• Second Saturday afternoon, 1:00-4:30 pm, Resolving professional problems of supervisees and gatekeeping including supervisory relationship issues, Dr. Deatrice Green.
This 25-hour workshop series is offered two times each calendar year.
