About this Event
For the first time since they were planted (2000-2010) we will be managing the woodlands that ring Hackney's Main Marsh. We will be coppicing to improve habiat for wildlife and cut stakes for use in other wildlife conservation in Hackney. This is part of the Old River Lea Restoration Project devised and delivered by Wildlife Gardeners of Haggerston.
Coppicing is a traditional woodland management technique. It is very sustainable because cut trees grow back. Cutting allows light into the woods for wild flowers and bulbs. It creates valuable decaying wood habitat and cut poles will be used later in the year to build other habitat nearby on Hackney Marshes.
Led by experienced tree expert and ecologist Russell Miller the whole day workshop will invlove use of saws and other cutting tools. Tools and training will be provided.
Not suitable for children.
Bring lunch and a mug for tea (provided).
Wear boots or strong shoes. Workshop will go ahead even in poor weather.
