Learn to make your own wool yarn from scratch.
About this Event

Ever wondered where the wool from your woolly jumper comes from? Curious to learn how to make your own yarn from scratch?

What you'll learn

In this half day workshop we’ll look at wool samples from different sheep breeds and their different characteristics, from fibre length and thickness to colour and crimp, as well as the benefits this natural fibre brings. There will be tips on foraging too. Then we’ll take some dirty fleece and go through the cleaning steps that can easily be done at home. We’ll card some clean fleece to prepare it for spinning, and discuss how else it can be used in its fluffy form before we turn it into yarn on a drop spindle.

What you'll take away

By the end of the course you’ll leave with a small quantity of clean fibre to experiment with at home, as well as a small hank of your own handspun yarn.

You will have the option to purchase drop spindles and a wool foraging guide on the day for you to continue your new skills at home.

The local fleeces used in this workshop were once destined for the compost heap. By taking this course, you are ensuring that this useful, natural fibre isn’t wasted.

The workshop is led by Lynne Sneddon (Fresaichigo). Lynne is passionate about wool and the many benefits this wonderful fibre has to offer.

To note

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. There will be a 30 minute break in the middle of the class if you’d like to bring a packed lunch. Bridgend Farmhouse Cafe opens from 11am but could be busy at lunchtime.

Please note payment is required to book on to this course and is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
