About this Event
This popular 37.5 hectare Country Park lies three kilometres from Broxburn in West Lothian just 20 kilometres west of Edinburgh. Formerly an 18th century estate owned by Henry Erskine, the park is now run by West Lothian Council and is managed both for wildlife and for public access. It is long and narrow, and consists mostly of mixed deciduous woodland, with some areas of conifers, grassland and the river Almond. The area is very rich in wildlife, with kingfishers and otters on the river and deer in the woodland - you may even be able to spot the notorious albino squirrel!
On this visit we will be controlling bracken to allow a more biodiverse grassland to regenerate.
We encourage volunteers to use our minibus for transport. If you live near this task and wish to make your own way you must ring Debbie on 07510959496 to book a space and for joining instructions.
Please bring your lunch and wear appropriate footwear (boots or wellingtons) and waterproof outdoor clothing.
NEW VOLUNTEERS Please only book one task initially. If you do not attend without letting us know, we may cancel any additional task bookings. If you are under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a guardian. Please contact us to discuss arrangements for volunteering with us , or whether other organisations might be more appropriate.
