Bobby. Bobby, baby. Bobby, bubi. Robby. Robert, darling…
It’s the eve of his 35th birthday, and Robert finds himself reevaluating his bachelorhood. His closest friends are married, and he’s seen first-hand how messy marriage can be: the highs, the lows, the contradictions. Is it really worth it?
As Robert grapples with the milestone before him and moves through encounters both affirming and destabilising, he’s forced to reckon with all he might be missing out on.
Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s seminal masterpiece broke new ground in 1970, redefining what a musical can be, and it still resonates today, over 50 years later, with enduring profundity and wit.
