About this Event
You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive hands-on training on-site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space.
Register now! Before the event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site.
Requirements
Register: Register in advance. Space is limited. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.
Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the tree planting event.
Arrival: Please arrive on time. Check-in is open from 8:00am to 8:30am. All volunteers must be present for the tool safety demonstration at 8:30am.
Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers may participate with an adult supervisor.
Clothes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun, bugs and poison ivy.
Shoes: Close-toed shoes required, boots are preferred over sneakers.
Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced Team Leaders and staff.
Water: Bring a full water bottle! Water will be available on-site if needed.
Animals: No animals are allowed into the event, except for service animals.
Restrooms: Restrooms will be available on-site.
What to expect on site:
8:00am - Check in opens & light breakfast served
8:30am - Mandatory tool safety demo
9:00am - Planting begins, at which time volunteers will be split into planting teams, each lead by a Team Leader. Each team will plant 2-3 trees.
Getting There
Parking: Parking is available on site by driving into the cemetery. More details to follow.
Bike Parking: Bikes can be locked to nearby signs.
Public Transportation: The nearest Metro station is NoMa-Gallaudet U, served by the red line. The nearest bus stops are served by the C53, C57, C71, and D36 lines.
