Hello Beautiful Humans !
KIZZUP Playdate Events is proud to present our final offering for 2025:
Communication and Consent on the Dance Floor.
This workshop has been a long time in planning, and we are delighted to offer it to you as our final piece for the year. After a few incidences this year overseas, that became very public in the social dance community, we decided its a good time to look at the topic of boundaries, consent and respectful interaction the social dance floor, with 2 industry experts. Around this topic, we can explore:
What does consent look like?
How do I understand if me or my dance partner is feeling unsafe or uncomfortable?
How do we navigate the feelings that come up when this happens?
How do we maintain respectful and free interaction that is dignified and doesn’t rob anyone of their agency?
How do we have healthy and mature discussions around all these topics, that drive real attitudinal and behavioural changes, at a community level?
If you are a social dancer , form any dance discipline , you are invited and encouraged to attend this workshop. This is open to leaders and followers, from all dance styles. You don’t need to do every activity offered to you in the workshop- just showing up is good enough. Nobody has to do anything they are uncomfortable with.
If you:
-Have ever felt uncomfortable or awkward on the dance floor
-Have been unsure how to navigate “big feelings” in the intimate setting of social dance
-Struggle to understand what “feeling unsafe” is in your body
-Struggle to read what “feeling unsafe” is in others
-Have had problems expressing , maintaining or respecting boundaries in social dancing
-Don’t know how to talk about or are curious about big topics like consent and boundaries
-Want to learn how to interact with agency and maturity as an adult in dance
Then this workshop is FOR YOU.
WHAT THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT:
-A kizomba workshop
-Technique focused dance workshop
-A 6 hour lecture
-An opportunity to name, blame and shame others
-A trauma dumping session
-Training to become a dancefloor policeman/woman
This workshop is a safe space to present with curiously, respect and humility, to learn to listen to and receive others, to learn new things, and take them back into your dance practice and community a large. The objective is to bring a group of dancers together and provide them with awareness of new ways of interacting and communicating that promotes more closeness and proximity, not to drive division , suspicion and distance.
