About this Event
Commemorating Ceramics!
This workshop will introduce you to the GSA archives through the profile of Holmes Gray’s and other distinguished graduates represented in the collection, such as Helen Biggar, Ann Macbeth and Robert Stewart, and encourage you to design your own ceramic commemorative plate.
Gray was a graduate of GSA’s ceramic department in the 50’s and went on to a prolific career in The Potteries designing commemorative ware for industry. During the workshop you will explore Gray’s archive, and other artefacts in the collection, and consider what it means to commemorate something. GSA A&C will introduce you to the collections. Katy West will discuss Holmes Gray's work in relation to ceramic transfer and industrial ceramic production.
In the afternoon, participatory and special designer, and GSA graduate Josafinni will lead a collage and mono-printing workshop. We will introduce you to the process of ceramic transfer design and using collage and mono-printing design our own plates.
Please bring, sketchbook and pencils, camera or iphone, and a computer with Adobe Suite if you have it, t there will be laptops available to use if they don’t have your own.
