A warm, inclusive ecstatic dance rooted in ancestral rhythm, embodied freedom, and collective presence.About this Event
Welcome to ecstatic dance at Colours in Contact!
Ecstatic dance is a sacred, free-flowing practice of movement and presence, where the body speaks its own language without words, choreography, or judgment. Rooted in the rhythms of African drums, the spiraling devotion of Sufi whirls, the heartbeat of Indigenous ceremonies, and the ecstatic chants of South Asia, it carries the echoes of generations who moved to connect with spirit, with community, nourishing our life-force energy.
The journey unfolds in waves: a gentle awakening, a rising surge of intensity, and a return to spacious stillness. Music, rhythm, and breath guide the body as it remembers how to feel, release, and embody freedom. Your movement may be soft or wild, quiet or full of abandon each impulse a thread in the living tapestry of ancestral dance.
Here, we do more than move. We remember the lineage in our bodies, honour those who danced before us, and offer our own expression as a tribute to ourselves, to the rhythms that carry us, and to the deep, sacred joy of being alive.
