The Alliance is honored to welcome renowned artist and educator, Paloma Trecka, who will lead two collage workshops. Attending both workshops is recommended, but not required.
Cut and Paste: I (April 19, 1-4pm) will begin with a demonstration and presentation of collage techniques and source materials; participants will then freely explore and experiment to create their own unique art work. Materials to bring: One pair of scissors, glue stick, x-acto blade knife, paper, photos, a marker and substrates such as cardboard or artboards (any shape or size). *
Cut and Paste: II (April 26, 1-4pm)will focus on developing a collaborative and intuitive approach to collage and will feature the act of juxtaposing words and images to create a visual and spoken word poetry. Adapting from the surrealist game of Exquisite Corpse, participants will randomly select words and images from source material provided by the instructor. Materials to bring: One pair of scissors, glue stick, x-acto blade knife, paper, photos, tape, markers and substrates such as cardboard or artboards.*
*The Alliance will also provide a variety of unique historic and contemporary images and extra supplies for both workshops.
Paloma Trecka is a visual artist and educator based in Chicago. Paloma was born in Mexico and raised in the United States and Canada, by a family of anthropologists, artists and musicians. She studied Studio Art and Design for the Theater in Montreal and has a BFA from Concordia University. She is currently teaching about the history, art and industry of animation at Columbia College Chicago and at DePaul University.
