A free three-day movement and choreography workshop at Summerhall led by Fleur Darkin
About this Event

This short workshop brings together dancers, performers, choreographers and interdisciplinary makers to explore collaborative choreographic practice through training, improvisation, and collective research.

The lab is a facilitated space for artists to experiment through process and play with different approaches to generation and collaboration.

Participants are welcome to attend either individual sessions or both days.

While each workshop has a distinct focus and can be attended independently, the two days are designed to complement one another as part of a wider exploration of collaborative choreographic practice.

Day 1 — Dancer/Performer - focused
Tuesday 2nd of June

(studio open from 9.30am)

10am–11am
Morning class and training including Iyengar yoga for dancers.

11am–1pm
A performer-focused workshop exploring collaborative movement generation through guided improvisation, ensemble practice and choreographic experimentation.

The session explores strategies for collaborative movement-making rooted in process, responsiveness and live performance practice.

1pm–2pm
Informal lunch, discussion and artist exchange. Participants are encouraged to stay and continue conversations after the workshop. Please bring a packed lunch!

Day 2 — Choreographer/Maker -focused
Wednesday 3rd of Jun

(studio open from 9.30am)

10am–11am
Morning class and training including Iyengar yoga for dancers.

11am–1pm
A workshop for choreographers, directors and interdisciplinary makers exploring choreographic process, collaborative authorship and methods of generating movement with others.

The session focuses on compositional strategies, movement direction and approaches to facilitating open-ended creative processes.

1pm–2pm
Informal lunch, discussion and artist exchange. Participants are encouraged to stay and continue conversations after the workshop. Please bring a packed lunch.

Day 3 — Open Studio
Thursday 4th June | 10am–5pm

A self-directed studio space for participants to continue developing ideas, movement research and collaborative enquiry emerging from the previous workshops.

The space is intended as an informal environment for reflection, experimentation, discussion and ongoing practice.

Studio slots will be organised through participant sign-up. Access to the Open Studio is available to those who have attended one or both previous workshop sessions.
