Wallington people, this one’s for anyone who’s been quietly carrying a documentary idea around for ages.You know the kind, a story you feel compelled to tell, something local, personal, or just important, but you’re not sure how to turn it into a proper film rather than a few nice interviews and some b roll.
I’m running a 5 day Directing A Documentary course here in Wallington at Kindfame Productions, taught by Col Spector, delivered across five consecutive Saturdays starting 30 May 2026 (10am to 5:15pm).
A quick bit of background on Col, he’s a writer, director and documentary consultant who started his career directing non fiction at the BBC, then moved into commercials through Ridley Scott Associates. He’s also taught documentary directing at places like the National Film and Television School and Raindance.
This isn’t a camera kit course. It’s about how you shape a documentary into something watchable and emotionally engaging, story, interviews, visual approach, editing and sound, and how to pitch it so it has a chance of being seen.
You’ll bring 1 or 2 documentary ideas and develop them as you go, the mornings are dedicated to that.
