Few bands in British rock history have had a journey as turbulent and iconic as the Cockney Rejects. Formed in East London in the late ’70s as a raw, working-class answer to art school punk, they sang about real-life struggles—police harassment, street violence, football—rather than politics. After just four gigs, they signed with EMI, hit the charts, and caused chaos on Top of the Pops, eventually getting banned. Their love for West Ham led to both cult success and chaos, culminating in violent clashes that ended their first touring run. Yet their legacy lived on, influencing bands like Rancid and Green Day and sparking a fan resurgence. Reuniting in 2000, they’ve since toured globally with an explosive live show. In 2024, frontman Jeff “Stinky” Turner carried the torch with a fresh lineup, keeping the spirit of terrace punk alive.
