Goodness! Seems like only yesterday; a freezing last Thursday of February 25 years ago, the day we first opened our doors. Nervous excitement; how would it go? Would people come? What’s it like DJing at a proper club, with lights and smoke and all, instead of at a shoddy bar, at a random dancehall for a wedding audience, or indeed in one’s bedroom? Can I find anything to wear? Will people turn up looking really, really awesome? Can we make this work, kickstart something like a 21st century Blitz Club? Will it work out, hopefully last for a bit?Well, yes, it worked out all right. And it’s been working out really well ever since.
We’ve had so many people grace our little night with their presence over the years. They’ve come, they’ve partied, they’ve gone; then occasionally they’ve come back. And it is these people – it is YOU people – who’ve made Club Anvil what it is. It’s a club in the best sense of the word; a community of the loveliest, oddest, cleverest, most beautiful people, who happen to like to dance to the music we like to put on. It’s always been friendly, welcoming, warm, cool, amazing.
And now we are turning 25. A quarter of a century. Holy moly! WE NEED A HUGE PARTY!
We’d like to invite EVERYONE, all who have ever enjoyed shaking their bum on the Anvil dancefloor (or making dramatic, controlled, cool moves if you’re not the shaky-bum type) to come and celebrate this incredible milestone with us. It might be years since you last visited; no matter. Literally: we want you ALL to be there!
This is going to be a huge party, a full house. So take the Friday off. Spread the word. Invite all your friends – and tell THEM to take the Friday off. We’re going to party like it’s 2000, or 2008, or 2015, or any old year of this century and we are going to keep partying until the morning!
