Teaching difficult histories with integrity and impact.
About this Event

In a society increasingly conscious of its complex past, the role of educators in shaping historical understanding has never been more vital.

Join the City of London and St Paul's Cathedral for a free conference for educators and students exploring how to address these aspects of the history curriculum, ensuring difficult histories are taught with clarity, balance, and impact.

Taking place within the historic heart of the City of London, the event invites participants to think deeply about the intersection of place, memory, and education, and to engage with how institutions like Guildhall and St Paul’s are confronting and interpreting their own histories.

Conference Highlights:

  • Inspiring Keynote Address by historian Prof. William Pettigrew.
  • Engaging roundtable discussions with educators, experts, and young people to share insights and reflect on practical strategies for classroom implementation.
  • Guided experience at St Paul’s Cathedral, including sessions titled History Set in Stone and History Around Us that link historical narratives to the city’s iconic landmarks.
  • Interactive Q&A and Feedback Session to discuss learnings and evaluate key themes from the morning’s sessions.
  • Optional Cathedral Tour for a deeper engagement with London’s historic environment and its role in remembering and interpreting difficult histories.
  • Networking opportunities during breakfast and lunch to connect with fellow educators and heritage professionals.
