: Cigarettes for Breakfast is a Philadelphia-based band known for their lush soundscapes and raw, emotive, fuzzed-out performances, capturing the essence of shoegaze and dream pop greats, such as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. The bedroom project of Matt Whiteford, along with an ever-changing cast of members and collaborators, has taken the hearts of listeners, making waves out of the DIY music scene and onto the stage with renowned acts like Slow Crush, The Asteroid No. 4, and Mahogany, among others.
After releasing several demos, EPs, and singles, Cigarettes for Breakfast’s debut LP, Join the Circus (2023), demonstrates the band’s ability to take the listener on a journey, exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. “Cigarettes for Breakfast seems to take up the ideas of the very first (and then still fresh) The Jesus and Mary Chain in search of the perfect love song…from outer space.” - Daniel Flores — Rolling Stone
The band's second full-length album, Slow Motion, will be released on February 21, 2025 on Abandon Everything Records (Vinyl), Candlepin Records (Tape), and The Upstate Sound (Digital).
: Mahogany dovetails elements of post-punk, shoegaze, disco and classical into futuristic, architectural, symphonic compositions. Duo Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm combine vocals, twin 12-string guitars, massive bass, densely-sequenced rhythms, and a variety of synthesizers and samplers for an immersive effect known as the "Hypercube."
The Mahogany discography already comprises two critically-acclaimed full-length albums The Dream of the Modern Day and Connectivity!, as well as numerous singles, EPs and compilation tracks collected on the double-disc set Memory Column: Early Works and Rarities 1996-2004. While producing, designing and remixing for artists including Ulrich Schnauss, The Veldt, and Lovesliescrushing, more recent Mahogany work includes the expansive 8-minute maxi-single “Phase Break.”
Performing live with artists like Anika, Jonathan Bree, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, Bloc Party, Interpol, Luna, Broadcast, and many others, Mahogany garners reviews and features in Pitchfork, The Wire, The New York Times, NME, Guardian, ZOO Magazine, and more.
: Philadelphia’s So Totally are a portrait of utmost devotion. Since 2015, the band has humbly studied their surroundings and themselves, perfecting a sound present on 2016’s A Cheap Close-Up of Heaven, and 2019’s In The Shape Of. Shimmering guitars sit underneath lush vocals that concurrently embed themselves in a listener’s subconscious, haunting them with heavy mood and nostalgia for 90’s rock groups. These releases brought So Totally to the point of singular focus on drafting a third album, Double Your Relaxation, while in quarantine in 2020.
Lyrically and thematically, Double Your Relaxation explores where influence and “hypnosis” exist in life, specifically in environment, media, relationships, and self, bouncing between perspectives of witnessing, interacting with, and contributing to illusion and how that ultimately affects our idea of identity. The moody and surreal nature of the songs lends itself appropriately to the shoegaze/heavy indie style of So Totally, making them a perfect addition to the canon of the genre. (Pierce Jordan)
: Melodic Canvas emerged from the deep woods of Northern Michigan in the fall of 2016 as the creative undertaking of musician and visual artist Evan Alderton.
An experimentalist at core, his music contains a fusion of alternative rock and shoegaze, with shades of folk. Melodic Canvas sonically echoes the angst ridden era of the 90’s and brings the fervidness and visceral intensity into the modern day. Heavy reverb, natural room acoustics, and eerie, atmospheric soundscapes make his music distinctively haunting, evoking an “under the skin” feeling in listeners.
Evan’s visual art emotes a similarly haunting atmosphere, from his expressive, semi-abstract drawings and paintings, to his dark, moody analog photography.
Drawing inspiration from the vast mysteriousness of nature and the dark, hidden corners of the mind, Melodic Canvas thrives on idiosyncratic, eccentric, and deranged ideas, exploring and encapsulating the unseen and unheard.
