About this Event
As part of the China Institute’s Centennial Celebration, join us for a special evening honoring the beauty, history, and global resonance of Chinese music through the artistry of the guzheng. This unique concert brings together two distinguished masters in a rare shared performance.
- Renowned Hong Kong artist Xu Lingzi presents innovative interpretations rooted in tradition.
- Master Gao Baijian from Guangdong, China, brings to life the expressive regional Chaozhou style of the Lingnan tradition.
The program will be announced from the stage by US-based scholar and educator Mei Han, whose work bridges cultures and promotes cross-cultural exchange.
Co-presented by the US-China Music Institute of Bard College and China Institute, this very special event will showcase the richness, history, and evolving voice of the guzheng, one of the most iconic instruments in the Chinese music tradition.
This concert is presented as part of the US-China Music Institute’s annual conference on Chinese music in the West, Guzheng Tianxia 古筝天下, taking place at China Institute and at Bard College from April 30 to May 2, 2026.
