Chien Buggle
Chien Buggle is a classical guitarist committed to expanding the contemporary repertoire of his instrument. His solo programs highlight the beauty, diversity, and expressive potential of new music. A former member of the critically acclaimed Dublin Guitar Quartet, he has performed widely across Europe and the United States. Recent engagements include appearances at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (USA), SGSM Festival (Slovenia), Touch the Sound Festival (Italy), and the One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel (UAE).
Chien has collaborated with leading composers such as Michael Gordon, Nico Muhly, and Glenn Branca.
Originally drawn to the Irish harp as a child, he later took up the electric guitar before ultimately dedicating himself to classical guitar. He holds a degree in Music from Trinity College Dublin and a master’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance from TU Dublin Conservatory.
During his studies he participated in an exceptional number of masterclasses with many of the world’s foremost guitarists, including David Russell, David Leisner, Oscar Ghiglia, Elena Papandreou, Marco del Greco, Odair Assad, Nicolas Goluses, Andrea de Vitis, Petra Poláčková, and Denis Azabagić, who described him as “an original and ambitious musician.”
In 2016, Chien joined the Dublin Guitar Quartet, recording two albums and completing ten international tours with the ensemble before departing in 2024. He is currently developing new work for his debut solo album.
Beyond formal concert halls, Chien remains actively engaged in community and cultural initiatives. In 2025 he presented recitals as part of Culture Night in Dublin and performed library and community concert series in Ireland, fostering broader access to classical guitar music beyond traditional venues.
Currently, Chien is focused on developing repertoire for his first solo album, exploring new sonic landscapes and establishing his voice as a solo artist in contemporary classical music.
