The Chicago Jazz Orchestra Summer Residency continues! The late trumpet legend Clark Terry called Chicago Jazz Orchestra "The best big band in the country."
In August 1979, the ensemble was the opening band on the first night of the First Annual Chicago Jazz Festival. 45 years later, the CJO stands as not only the oldest professional big band in Chicago, but also the second oldest professional civic jazz orchestra in the United States (second only to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra).
Grammy-Nominated Victor Garcia is a musical force to be reckoned with. The Chicago Tribune says that he “stands out as an ebullient soloist offering a formidable technique and a radiantly polished tone.” Garcia is as versatile as he is creative. In addition to trumpet, he sings and plays percussion. His songwriting, arrangements and charts have led him to professorial positions at Roosevelt University, Loyola University and the University of Illinois in Chicago.
