The Chicago Jazz Orchestra Summer Residency continues! The late trumpet legend Clark Terry called Chicago Jazz Orchestra "The best big band in the country."
In August 1979, the ensemble was the opening band on the first night of the First Annual Chicago Jazz Festival. 45 years later, the CJO stands as not only the oldest professional big band in Chicago, but also the second oldest professional civic jazz orchestra in the United States (second only to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra).
Eric Schneider’s musical adventures began early. He was able to play melodies on the piano at age three. After graduating from the University of Illinois, he returned to Chicago and joined Jim Beebe’s Chicago Jazz Band. Eric has had long tenures with both jazz legends Earl Fatha’ Hines and the Count Basie Orchestra, recording albums with both. He has shared stages with some of America’s greatest artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Clark Terry, Mel Tormé, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joe Williams, Ray McKinley, Rosemary Clooney and Billy Eckstine.
