Leonela Alejandro — Chicago Artopia International Guitar Series
Join us for an unforgettable evening of classical guitar with Leonela Alejandro, winner of the 2024 GFA International Concert Artist Competition and recipient of the prestigious Rose Augustine Grand Prize.
Originally from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Leonela is celebrated for her powerful, expressive performances that have captivated audiences across the U.S. and Europe. She has appeared at major festivals including the Latino Arts Guitar Festival, Marlow Guitar Series, and José Tomás Villa de Petrer Festival.
Leonela has earned more than a dozen top competition prizes in the U.S., including first place at the Louisville, Appalachian State, and Chicago Guitar Festivals, and has also been recognized internationally at events like le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix and the Iserlohn International Guitar Competition.
In addition to her competition success, Leonela has performed as a soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and premiered Concertino for Guitar, Percussion, and Strings by Atanas Ourkouzounov. She studied under renowned guitarists including René Izquierdo and Dr. Andrew Zohn.
Currently an Augustine Strings Ambassador, Leonela performs on guitars by luthiers Stephan Connor and Martin Blackwell and uses Paragon Reds strings.
