In fast tempo and electrically amplified, Cherry Bandora revives the analog sounds of Laïko, Anadolu Rock and Mizrahit.
In 2013, the Berlin-based retro band released their debut album “The Golden Years”, featuring new interpretations of taverna hits by legendary Greek and Israeli artists such as Stelios Kazantzidis, Vasilis Tsitsanis and Aris San.
Since then, they have released an EP (2015, Batov Records/UK) and their second album “Back to the Taverna” (2023, Rebel Up/BE and Rumi Sounds/DE), and been constantly expanding their repertoire with old-time songs about heartbreak, partying and smashing plates, sung in multiple languages.
In addition to Greek, Turkish and Farsi, self-penned lyrics appear in English and Hebrew.
The sometimes joyful, sometimes melancholic melodies are accompanied by the delay-heavy tones of the bouzouki - the Greek guitar - and the psychedelic sounds of the organ.
Oriental rhythms mix with surf, funk and Latin grooves in lush and daring arrangements, alluring the listener on a journey between Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Jaffa and Berlin.

In flottem Tempo und elektrisch verstärkt beschwört Cherry Bandora die Analog-Klänge von Laïko, Anadolu Rock und Mizrahit herauf.
2013 veröffentlichte die Berliner Retro-Band ihr Debütalbum “The Golden Years” mit Neuinterpretationen von Tavernen-Schlagern legendärer griechischer und israelischer Künstler wie Stelios Kazantzidis, Vasilis Tsitsanis und Aris San.
Seitdem veröffentlichten sie eine EP (2015, Batov Records/UK) und ihr zweites Album “Back to the Taverna” (2023, Rebel Up/BE und Rumi Sounds/DE), und erweitern ständig ihr Repertoire mit altbekannten Lieder über Liebeskummer, Feiern und Teller zerschmettern, die mehrsprachig gesungen werden.
Neben Griechisch, Türkisch und Farsi tauchen selbstgeschriebene Texte auf Englisch und Hebräisch auf.
Die mal fröhlichen, mal melancholischen Melodien werden begleitet von den Delay-lastigen Tönen der Bouzouki - der griechischen Gitarre - und den psychedelischen Sounds der Orgel.
Orientalische Rhythmen vermischen sich in üppigen und gewagten Arrangements mit Surf, Funk und Latin Grooves, und verführen zu einer Reise zwischen Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Jaffa und Berlin.
