About this Event

The Chartered College of Teaching is delighted to invite you to our Annual Lecture and Celebration, which will take place on Saturday 21st March 2026, 1-5pm at the British Library.

We are delighted to host Professor Teresa Cremin, Professor of Education (Literacy) and Co-Director of the Literacy and Social Justice Centre at The Open University, as our keynote speaker for our Annual Lecture this year. Prof Cremin will explore the global decline in reading for pleasure among children and young people and highlight evidence-informed ways forward. She will consider the consequences of limited conceptualisations of reading, shifts in reading patterns and practices and the need to nurture desire, depth and dialogue – the will alongside the skills. Participants will develop a richer understanding of why volitional reading matters and ways to motivate and connect students of all ages through individually and socially oriented practices. This talk will provide a case study of why it is important to consider a wide range of evidence when developing evidence-informed education policies. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

The annual lecture will be followed by the graduation ceremony for this year’s cohort of Chartered Teacher graduands and a celebration of those who have been awarded Fellowship status. We are also delighted to honour Bushra Nasir with an Honorary Fellowship at this event.

Light refreshments will be served after the celebration, providing ample opportunity for attendees to network.

NOTE: Early-Bird tickets will be available until Friday 23rd January 2026. After this point, general admission prices will be available.

Please ensure that you select the correct ticket type for your membership, this will be checked internally and refunds made where appropriate. ETF graduands should select the Graduate ticket option.

For further information, please read the Attendee Guidance attached, or contact Lily on [email protected].

This event is kindly supported by Pearson.
