About this Event

This 45-minute indoor presentation travels all over the world, begins with wise words by Diogenes the Dog Cynic, then illustrates the important ways in which our world’s many cultures memorialize their loved ones after they join the invisible choir. We'll revisit monuments, architecture, the history of the Rural Cemetery Movement, and much more.

Kim Bearden is the current Executive Director of Elmwood Cemetery, the most storied and fascinating burial ground in Memphis. Founded in 1852, Elmwood is the final resting place for 80,000 individuals from all walks of life. The story of Elmwood reflects deeply traditional and rapidly changing views on death, alike. Kim will reveal the old ways, and the new.

This presentation includes beverages, snacks, and comfortable seating.
