Lecture:
Management of Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs and Cats
Presented By:
Sage H. Hubert, VMD, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Program Description:
This lecture serves to be a comprehensive review of congestive heart failure in both feline and canine patients catered to referring veterinarians. It will cover the most common cardiac diseases that result in congestive heart failure, and the associated clinical symptoms reported by owners when these patients are presented. How to diagnose as well as how to medically manage these veterinary patients will be discussed. Physical examination findings seen with cardiac disease will be reviewed, and diagnostic test discussion will cover thoracic radiographs and point-of-care ultrasound findings. Medical management will focus on acute, emergent cases of congestive heart failure, but the topic of chronic medical management and future follow-ups will be addressed. The long term prognosis and factors associated with congestive heart failure will be reviewed. In addition, there will be information regarding new cardiac medications that are currently being researched for chronic management of congestive heart failure, and the cardiac surgical/interventional procedures that are presently available.
